CV NEWS FEED // Anticipating the spiritual fruit of the coming month, Archbishop José Gomez wrote in a recent Angelus News op-ed that US Catholics are seeing “a great outpouring of the Spirit” as a consequence of the Eucharistic revival and the many activities surrounding it.
In his June 19 article, the Archbishop reflected on the spiritual fruits of the current National Eucharistic Revival movement, which has been a central focus of the US Church for the past three years.
“More and more, we can see how this Eucharistic revival is part of a larger movement of the Spirit in our times,” he wrote.
The Archbishop recalled celebrating Mass with Pope Francis several years ago. At that Mass, the Pontiff concluded his homily with a call for the Holy Spirit to bring about a renewal for the Church in America.
“May a powerful gust of holiness sweep through all the Americas,” the Holy Father said. “We ask God for this special outpouring of the Holy Spirit! There was so much holiness, so much holiness planted in America!”
This year, according to the Archbishop, the Church in America and beyond is witnessing this outpouring.
He continued:
People are looking for meaning and purpose and love in their lives. They want to know: How should I live, what is the right path for me to follow? What happens when I die, and does my life make a difference?
Those questions were on people’s hearts when Jesus walked the earth. Those questions are still on people’s hearts. And in the Church, we have the answers that people are looking for.
In addition to attending the National Eucharistic Congress in July, Archbishop Gomez will also lead over 300 parishioners in the annual pilgrimage to Mexico City, where they will pray before the sacred tilma that bears the miraculous image of Mary.
“It is an exciting moment to be a believer and a follower of Jesus, a time when the Spirit is once again planting holiness in America,” he concluded. “Pray for me, and I will pray for you.”
