CV NEWS FEED // The Knights of Columbus announced they will place a historic nativity scene on the New Haven Green ahead of the city tree lighting on November 30.
The Knights of Columbus crèche is a resin replica of a larger wooden crèche made specially for the Knights by Mexican artist Agustin Parra. The original was showcased outside the Vatican throughout Pope Benedict XVI’s pontificate.
According to a news release, the Knights of Columbus “has displayed the crèche on the New Haven Green for over a decade.”
The New Haven Green display of the crèche will take place alongside two seasonal exhibitions by the Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center: Christmas in America and Celebrating 800 Years of the Crèche.
According to the news release, “Christmas in America features crèches representing 18 North and South American countries and explores the traditions and festivities that have developed throughout both continents to celebrate the season. It is open to the public until Feb. 4, 2024.”
Celebrating 800 Years of the Crèche “honors the rich history of the Nativity as seen across the world,” and will feature “over 150 figures and elaborate settings.” The exhibition will continue until March 24, 2024.
