CV NEWS FEED // Young men in Ireland who are discerning a priestly vocation are invited to spend next weekend in the Maynooth learning more about seminary life.
The “Come and See” weekend at Saint Patrick’s College will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, November 15, according to the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference news service, CatholicNews.ie. The weekend will conclude on Sunday, November 17.
“This weekend provides an invaluable opportunity for men who are discerning a vocation to take time with this question in a nurturing and informative environment,” Fr. Willie Purcell, director of the National Office for Diocesan Vocations, told CatholicNews.ie. “Taking the risk for Christ and committing to serve Him as a priest is eternally rewarding.”
The “Come and See” weekend will allow attendees to pray with those currently in seminary, meet other men who are discerning, and learn about the seminary formation program, according to CatholicNews.ie.
This year, 21 men in Ireland began their first year in seminary, as CatholicVote previously reported. This brings the total number of seminarians in Ireland to 74. Within the past year, the Catholic bishops of Ireland have been putting a particular effort into promoting the priestly vocation, and people across the nation were praying for vocations as well.
“Let us pray that all those who have chosen the path of priesthood will find fulfillment and bring the truth and the healing of Christ to our broken world,” Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, the chair of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Council for Vocations, said in the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference article CatholicVote cited.
