CV NEWS FEED // The Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Religion and Democracy (IRD) is launching a free reading group for young professionals centered around the writings of St. Pope John Paul II.
The group will discuss various writings in the monthly group meeting, according to the IRD website. The first two-hour session will begin in person at 6 p.m. EST Feb. 18. Two sessions will take place during the initial week of the reading group, with the second meeting beginning at the same time Feb. 20.
A new theme will be selected each month for group members to explore a variety of works of St. Pope John Paul II, who was a prolific writer. Catholic Society reports that during his 26-year papacy, the Polish pope wrote a total of 14 encyclicals, 15 apostolic exhortations, 11 apostolic constitutions, and 45 apostolic letters.
Attendees at the Feb. 20 book club session will analyze the film The Jeweler’s Workshop, the IRD website states. According to the Ignatius Press, the film is based on the 1960 play written by then-auxiliary Bishop Karol Wojtyła — later Pope St. John Paul II — on the intricacies of life and love.
CatholicVote previously reported that the New York-based non-profit Arthouse2B also brought The Jeweler’s Workshop to life in a stage production, showing in Manhattan at a June 2024 premiere.
More information about the reading group is available here.
