CV NEWS FEED // Several parishes in the Diocese of Rockford, Illinois, will host prayer services this month in observance of the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children.
The Day, which is observed on the second Saturday of September, falls this year on September 14, according to the Day of Remembrance’s website.
The official Rockford diocesan newspaper, The Observer, reported that St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish in West Dundee will observe the Day of Remembrance with a memorial service at 9 a.m., with a breakfast preceding. A rosary will be prayed at the Memorial Garden for the Unborn at Calvary Cemetery in Winnebago at 10 a.m.
The Observer lists several additional local services, which are scheduled on dates near the official Day.
Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and the Pro-Life Action League began the National Day in 2013, according to the Day of Remembrance’s website. In 2023, more than 200 locations across the nation participated in the event.
The website reads, “By participating in the National Day of Remembrance, visiting these solemn memorial places at other times of the year, and spreading the word about this prayer campaign, you are helping to humanize our aborted brothers and sisters and deepening your own commitment to ending the injustice of abortion.”
