CV NEWS FEED // After pressure from pro-life advocates, the Idaho Medical Association (IMA) has retracted statements in Resolution 105 that criticized Pregnancy Resource Centers for allegedly posing as legitimate medical facilities and disseminating misinformation.
As CatholicVote reported, the resolution had accused Stanton Healthcare and other life-affirming medical clinics in Idaho of “not being legitimate healthcare organizations, providing inaccurate medical information, misleading patients, acting unethically, being manipulative, and having unlicensed volunteers in white coats give out information to women in exam rooms.”
Stanton Healthcare had threatened the IMA with legal action if they refused to amend or withdraw the resolution.
According to an October 9 news release from Stanton, the retraction came after Stanton conducted a vigorous campaign to challenge the IMA’s language, including a news conference at the Idaho State Capitol, where Stanton’s representatives called on the IMA to amend or withdraw the resolution.
In addition, Stanton launched the #HandsOffOurClinics initiative, mobilizing supporters to contact IMA members and voice their concerns about the resolution, the news release shared.
The amended resolution now emphasizes the importance of “truthfulness, transparency, and confidentiality” in health-related services, asserting that all clinics should operate within the bounds of licensed practices and medical standards, according to the news release.
Brandi Swindell, Founder and CEO of Stanton Healthcare, expressed her gratitude for the IMA’s decision, viewing it as a victory for women in Idaho and for life-affirming healthcare.
“We are thrilled to share that the Idaho Medical Association has significantly altered their resolution, removing harmful disinformation and eliminating efforts to block funding for pregnancy resource centers and life-affirming medical clinics like Stanton,” she said.
According to Swindell, the victory “demonstrates the impact of community advocacy and engagement in shaping public policy.”
“In the future, we hope the IMA would focus on providing quality medical care for the citizens of Idaho and not be a lobbying arm of the abortion industry and Planned Parenthood,” Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Chief Strategy Officer for Stanton Public Policy Center stated in the news release.
