If you don’t know what transpired at the papal Mass at New York City’s Madison Square Garden — within the archdiocese that is under the direct control of Cardinal Timothy Dolan — then click here to read a giddy Huffington Post article about reporter/comic Mo Rocca’s appearance as a lector.
I’m not interested in getting into the pros, the cons, the symbolism, the motivation, the fallout, blah blah blah. I just have two factual questions, and I’d like somebody connected to, or knowledgeable about, the Archdiocese of New York to answer them. The answers may lead to a lot more questions, or they may not, but to proceed without the answers is just wild speculation.
Here they are:
Who signed off on Rocca?
Why?
Anyone knowing the answer to one or both of these, please drop it/them in the comments below. And keep the wild speculation to yourself. I only want factual replies.
NOTE: Corrected to reflect that the Mass took place at the Garden, not St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
