CV NEWS FEED // Father Tom Charters of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Erwin, Tennessee, is leading efforts supported by the Catholic Extension Society to provide vital assistance to survivors of the recent hurricanes.
In the wake of the recent hurricanes, thousands of individuals have lost access to food, water, and power, leaving many families in dire circumstances as they face the long road to recovery. An October 14 report from the Catholic Extension Society shared that in towns that were “already struggling,” the devastation has been profound. Many are turning to local Catholic churches for assistance.
The report shared that in Erwin, Tennessee, Father Charters has been a pillar of support for his parishioners and the broader community since the onset of heavy flooding caused by Hurricane Helene.
Facilitated by donations made through the Catholic Extension Society, Father Charters’ church, St. Michael the Archangel, has become a gathering point for Catholic and non-Catholic individuals seeking “spiritual comfort, shelter, and aid.”
“Thanks to the generosity of our donors thus far,” the Catholic Extension Society stated, “St. Michael the Archangel Church has been able to provide support to hundreds of families affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene.”
Those willing to donate to support survivors via the Catholic Extension Society can do so here.
