The Archdiocese of Chicago will livestream a special video message, premiering at the Chicago White Sox baseball stadium June 14, from Pope Leo XIV to young people of the world at 2:30 p.m. Central.
The archdiocesan events celebrating Pope Leo, a native of Chicago, will include the virtual papal address, celebratory music, and Mass at the stadium. The archdiocese’s YouTube channel will livestream the events at this link:
Tickets, which are $5, are required to attend the event in person. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. CT, the program begins at 2:30 p.m., and Mass celebrated by Cardinal Blase Cupich will begin at 4 p.m., according to the archdiocese’s website. All are welcome to attend.
Shortly after he was elected pope, the world learned that the new pontiff is a White Sox fan and that he had attended one of the team’s games in the 2005 World Series, which the White Sox won.
The White Sox celebrated the historic connection by adding a mural of Pope Leo to the stadium section where he had once cheered on the team.
Along with celebrating the momentous June 14 address, CatholicVote has launched a special initiative regarding the pontiff.
“It’s historic: the first American pope is sending a message of hope to Chicago,” CatholicVote’s webpage states. “Now imagine welcoming him in person. Join thousands of Catholics nationwide who are asking Pope Leo XIV to visit the United States.”
The invitation can be signed here.
