CV NEWS FEED // The Archdiocese of Atlanta will once again join Georgia Life Alliance at the state’s March for Life in February 2024.
The downtown Atlanta rally is scheduled to take place on February 22, around the State Capitol building.
Leading up to the event, there will also be an observance of the Roe v. Wade decision and Mass for the Preborn on Saturday, January 20 at Holy Spirit Church in Atlanta.
Auxiliary Bishop John N. Tran is expected to preside the Mass.
According to a report from Georgia Bulletin, Director of Respect Life Ministry Joey Martineck said that “While there are still important battles for life at the federal level, since the Dobbs Supreme Court case, the fight for life is moving to the state level.”
In the aftermath of the Dobbs decision, which overturned the precedent of abortion being a constitutional right, the issue has been decided on a state by state basis. In Georgia, the report continued, “Researchers believe that the number of abortions has gone up since the Dobbs decision.”
Citing a study from the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the report claims that “there were 39,067 abortions performed in the state in 2022, a 1% increase from 2021.”
In addition, Lozier, which is affiliated with Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, also found “more than 4 out of 10 women seeking abortions had a highschool education or less,” and that approximately 65% of abortions in the state were performed on Black women.
“We want to see abortion abolished not only in the law,” Martineck added, “but for there to be so much help offered to moms and families that abortion becomes unthinkable.”
