Former Pussycat Doll Kaya Jones spoke at the West Coast Walk for Life this past weekend, sharing her own story of redemption after three abortions.
The Walk, held in San Francisco, celebrated its 20th year on January 20.
Jones attended the pre-march rally and spoke about her personal experience with abortion and how the Lord ultimately changed her heart.
A Toxic Industry
Jones entered the music industry and like many young women, dreamed of becoming a pop star. In the mid-2000’s, at age 19 she auditioned for a place in the girl group the Pussycat Dolls. Before she knew it, Jones was facing a life of constant pressure and control and she was forced to undergo an abortion – her second – that year.
When Jones found out she was pregnant, she was “told to get rid of it [the baby].”
Jones identified her promiscuous lifestyle and the toxic culture of the music industry as two of the many variables that led to her second abortion.
Low self-esteem leads to promiscuity ultimately, which leads to you having an abortion that you wish you’d never even encountered because it’s painful beyond measure.
Her family had already encouraged and taken her for her first abortion at 16. She procured her third abortion after a sexual assault when she was 29.
Turn to Life
Jones has been outspoken about the long-term effects and pain that have come as a result of her multiple abortions.
I regret every single day the three children I did not have. I am the parent of three dead children.
Jones elaborated on her message to young girls, “Listen to my story. Take heed to the reality of my story…”
The Lord works all things for his greater glory.
Since leaving the Pussycat Dolls in 2004, Jones has pursued a career as a single artist and turned her music towards glorifying God. Jones is set to release a new album in 2024 that includes her single “Breathe into Me,” a tribute to the sanctity of life.
Message to Young Women
In a recent interview, Jones also had another message for young women who are feeling pressured to terminate their pregnancies: “You can be successful and be a Mom. Even if you are scared; it is OK to be scared.”
I hope to one day be able to be a mom, I hope to be a wife and get to be able to share what I do believe is the greatest gift, and ultimately the greatest job you’ll ever have on this planet as a woman, to be a mother.
