CV NEWS FEED // In a shift that has stunned the pro-abortion community, Dr. Forrest Smith, a veteran abortion provider, is now calling on voters across the nation to reject all 10 state abortion amendments on the ballot in the upcoming election, according to an Operation Rescue press release.
Having performed thousands of abortions over his long career, Dr. Smith has undergone a profound change of heart and now advocates for ending abortion, especially for viable babies. “There is no need to kill viable babies,” he declared, urging the nation to consider alternatives.
According to Operation Rescue, Dr. Smith, who has also delivered thousands of babies over his 54-year career as an obstetrician, highlights that unwanted late-term pregnancies do not need to result in abortion. Instead, he advocates for early delivery, with the medical technology and resources available today ensuring that premature babies can be cared for in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs).
“We can save these babies,” Smith argues. “We have the medical technology and resources to ensure that any child born, even prematurely, can receive the care they need.”
Emphasizing that the lives of both women and viable babies can be respected, Dr. Smith has aligned himself with the pro-life movement. He is now urging voters to take a stand for life at the polls, underscoring that medical alternatives to abortion exist that preserve both maternal health and the lives of unborn children.
Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, expressed his admiration for Dr. Smith’s transformation.
“For decades, we protested outside of Dr. Smith’s clinics, fighting against what we saw as a terrible injustice,” Newman said. “Now, to call him a friend and ally in the fight to protect the unborn is a remarkable moment. His decision to stand with us and speak out for life shows how powerful truth can be. Together, we now work to save the very lives we once stood on opposite sides over.”
The states with abortion amendments on the ballot this election are Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, and South Dakota. Nebraska also has a pro-life amendment on the ballot, titled The Protect Women and Children Initiative.
Commenting on the pro-abortion amendments, Newman warned in a statement, “These ten amendments, if passed, will radically increase the number of children killed by abortion in America as well as the gestational ages at which they will perish — namely, in the second and third trimester.”
