CV NEWS FEED // While a narrow majority of Floridians support the pro-abortion Amendment 4, the measure may not receive enough votes to pass in November, a recent poll shared by USA TODAY suggested.
The amendment would legalize abortions up until “viability,” which is usually defined around 24 weeks gestation.
The poll, Suffolk University/WSVN-TV conducted in conjunction with USA TODAY, found that while Florida law requires 60% approval for constitutional amendments, only 58% of respondents support Amendment 4 in place of the state’s current ban on abortions after the six-week mark.
However, USA TODAY notes that with the poll’s 4.4% margin of error, the outcome is still uncertain, as support for legalizing abortion up until the moment of birth could range from as high as 62% to as low as 54%.
As CatholicVote previously reported, Amendment 4 has been criticized for its intentionally broad nature, vague language, and for the financial strain it would cause for Floridians.
