CV NEWS FEED // The first Catholic college in South Carolina will celebrate its Opening Mass on Aug. 15, the Feast of Mary’s Assumption.
According to a College Fix report, Rosary College is the brainchild of author and Anglican convert to Catholicism, Fr. Dwight Longenecker, who attributes his inspiration for launching the college to his son’s experience as a dual-enrollment student at the local community college.
Rosary College President Michael Shick told the College Fix that Fr Longenecker wanted to provide access to a Catholic program of the same capacity to the growing population of the faithful in Greenville.
“The creation of Rosary College was truly a work of the Holy Spirit and a series of events that brought together passionate individuals,” Shick stated in the report.
The rigorous, two-year Associate Degree of Catholic Studies in Integrated Humanities at Rosary College will feature classes by leading Catholic thinkers such as renowned literary scholar Joseph Pearce and Exodus 90 Director of Content Dr Jared Staudt.
Shick told the College Fix that future curriculum offerings could include trade programs.
The College also plans to partner with other Catholic four-year institutions to “ensure seamless credit transfer” for its students, “providing a cost-effective pathway to a bachelor’s degree.”
Classes will be available both online and in person for both part-time and full-time college students, high school students seeking dual enrollment credits, or anyone interested in auditing a course.
