The University of Tampa fired assistant professor Kenneth Storey for calling Hurricane Harvey “instant karma” for Texans voting Republican.
“We condemn the comments and the sentiment behind them, and understand the pain this irresponsible act has caused,” the private college said in a statement.
“As Floridians, we are well aware of the destruction and suffering associated with tropical weather,” the statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all impacted by Hurricane Harvey.”
Storey, who taught sociology, posted the offending tweet and two responses on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
“I dont believe in instant karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesnt care about them,” the tweet read.
