CV NEWS FEED // In anticipation of the upcoming Sept. 4 Memorial Mass honoring Servant of God Father Vincent R. Capodanno, EWTN will re-broadcast its 90-minute docudrama “Called and Chosen,” according to a news release from the Archdiocese for the Military.
As CatholicVote previously reported, the 57th annual Memorial Mass honoring Fr. Capodanno marks the anniversary of when he died serving as a military chaplain during the Vietnam War.
“Called and Chosen” will be aired three times in anticipation of the Memorial Mass: at 8 p.m. ET Aug. 17, 1:30 a.m. Aug. 19, and 10:30 a.m. ET Sept. 3, the news release said.
The film tells Fr. Capodanno’s life story, from his birth into a large Italian immigrant family on Staten Island, NY, through his vocation as a Maryknoll Missionary in Taiwan and Hong Kong. He later joined the Navy as a chaplain, where he made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Swift, a daring mission to rescue Marines under attack by the North Vietnamese Army.
Fr. Capodanno posthumously received the Medal of Honor for his service in the Vietnam War. The Catholic Church declared him a Servant of God in May 2006.
