Starting June 6, Catholics will begin a 17-day pilgrimage across California, retracing the missionary path of Saint Junípero Serra by visiting all 21 historic missions from Sonoma to Los Angeles.
Called the Camino de California, the pilgrimage is part of the US bishops’ National Eucharistic Revival and will conclude on the Feast of Corpus Christi at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, the Archdiocese of San Francisco reported. Participants are invited to walk for as long as they are able — whether for a few hours or the full two weeks — with no registration required.
The Camino de California will join the final leg of the 2025 National Eucharistic Pilgrimage, which began in Indianapolis and is making its way to Los Angeles for the Corpus Christi celebration. Pope Francis granted a plenary indulgence to those who participate in the pilgrimage under the usual conditions: Confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.
Pilgrims joining the Camino de California will participate in Masses, Eucharistic Adoration, processions, and acts of mercy at the mission sites, many of which have been named Jubilee pilgrimage sites for the 2025 Year of Hope.
The Archdiocese of San Francisco will lead the opening events, beginning with a morning Mass in Sonoma June 6. Pilgrims will then process from Albert Park in San Rafael to Mission San Rafael Arcángel, where Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone will lead a Eucharistic procession and Benediction. That evening, a Rosary and Benediction will take place at the Golden Gate Bridge before the group continues to Mission Dolores in San Francisco.
On June 7, Bishop Michael C. Barber, S.J., will celebrate Mass at Mission Dolores Basilica, followed by a visit to the historic cemetery and afternoon programming at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park.
All three sites — Mission Dolores, San Rafael, and St. Patrick’s Seminary — have been designated as local pilgrimage sites for the Jubilee Year of Hope.
