Planned Parenthood provided the University of California San Diego (UCSD) with viable fetuses up to six months’ gestation from elective abortions in exchange for the “valuable consideration” of “patent” ownership and “intellectual property” rights associated with experiments performed on them, allege documents released last week under a California public records request.
The pro-life Center for Medical Progress (CMP) has published a video summary of the never-before-seen documents that appear to show Planned Parenthood’s heavily redacted “research plan,” submitted to UCSD and approved in 2018.
The research plan reveals Planned Parenthood’s statement of intent:
We will collect tissues from fetuses ranging from 4 to 23 weeks gestational age from subjects undergoing elective surgical pregnancy termination at Planned Parenthood San Diego …Subject with both viable nonanomalous and anomalous fetuses will be consented … Unused tissue will be discarded as per usual Planned Parenthood procedure. We plan to consent and collect from up to 2,500 patients in this part of the study.
“Nonanomalous” fetuses are unborn babies who are “healthy, their mothers are healthy, and they are old enough to survive outside the womb with proper medical care,” CMP explained.
CMP founder and pro-life activist David Daleiden highlighted in the video the chilling implications of what he said is revealed in the documents:
The research plan even states that they will verify evidence of fetal heart activity by ultrasound immediately prior to the forceps extraction abortion. This means that the baby is alive while they are being torn out of the mother. And this plan calls for harvesting from up to 2500 abortions. That’s 2500 cases of a mom and a dad with a baby ripped out early and killed for organ harvesting, 2500 babies killed and dissected for body parts.
CMP Associate Reporter Elise Ketch described further that emails exchanged between Planned Parenthood and UCSD also show a discussion about samples “greater than about 12.5 weeks” that require “the use of a dilating medication which is given to the patients three hours ahead of their procedure (these are called ‘cyto’ patients).”
“Cyto is short for Cytotech, also called misoprostol, which is used in chemical abortions to force start labor contractions to deliver the baby,” Ketch explained.
While a 50 microgram dose of misoprostol can induce labor within four hours, CMP pointed to Planned Parenthood’s procedural documents showing the abortion giant’s standard dosage of the drug is actually between 400 and 800 micrograms. “That’s 8 to 16 times as much,” CMP noted.
Daleiden explained that “Planned Parenthood actually lists going into labor as a side effect of misoprostol before a forceps abortion, and urges clinics not to allow patients to leave after taking it.”
The use of these heavy doses of misoprostol for several hours prior to the forceps abortion “means these are likely not standard dismemberment abortions, but either intact partial birth abortions or full delivery of the live baby,” Ketch asserted.
It has now been a decade since CMP published its first undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s and its biomedical research allies’ alleged profiteering from the sale of fetal body parts from aborted babies.
In December 2016, the Senate Judiciary Committee, then led by Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-IA, referred Planned Parenthood and its biomedical procurement partners to the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ), asserting that its investigation concluded the biomedical procurement partners paid the abortion group’s affiliates for the body parts of aborted babies “and then sold the fetal tissue to their respective customers at substantially higher prices than their documented costs.”
Nevertheless, Americans concerned about the constitutional rights violations committed against babies able to survive outside of the womb, and about their taxpayer dollars funding an organization that, as Daleiden asserts in the video, has been engaged in “killing late-term, viable babies … for body-parts sales” – have seen little response to the matter from the DOJ or FBI.
The abortion giant has been well-protected during the pro-abortion Democratic administrations of Barack Obama – who exclaimed “God bless you” to Planned Parenthood at an April 2013 gathering during which he heaped praise upon the group and its employees – and Joe Biden – who just recently awarded the Congressional Medal of Freedom to Cecile Richards, the former Planned Parenthood CEO who oversaw the growth of her organization into a political powerhouse.
In September 2017, the FBI’s assistant director of the Office of Congressional Affairs sent a letter to Grassley, acknowledging receipt of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s criminal referrals and confirming they were sent to the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division, where they were then sent to “the relevant FBI field offices for review and whatever action is deemed appropriate.”
As Breitbart News reported in June 2019, during the Trump administration, GOP senators demanded an update from then-Attorney General William Barr and current FBI Director Christopher Wray about the supposed investigation into possible violations of federal law regarding the sale, for profit, of aborted fetal tissue.
And, once again, in August 2020, Republican senators, led by then-Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-GA, called for the Department of Justice, the FBI, and the U.S. Treasury to investigate Planned Parenthood’s sales of the body parts of aborted babies, as well as its procurement of loans through the COVID-19 pandemic-related Paycheck Protection Program.
“[N]either Planned Parenthood nor the University of California has responded to the story publicly,” Ketch noted in the video revealing the newly released documents.
In a press statement, Daleiden added:
The University of California’s documents show Planned Parenthood using labor-inducing chemical abortion drugs to deliver viable, healthy preemies with ultrasound-documented heartbeats in their taxpayer-funded abortion factories—and rather than rushing those preemies to the University hospital NICU, they cut out their hearts and other body parts to sell for patent royalty-generating experiments.
These are not just the federal crimes of partial-birth abortion and selling body parts, but also of murder for hire … State and federal authorities should act to protect the civil rights of mothers and infants immediately.
