CV NEWS FEED // The Diocese of Raleigh has donated more than $489,000 to support relief efforts in the Diocese of Charlotte following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
The Diocese of Raleigh reported on November 11 that as of the previous week, they had sent a total of $489,141 to Catholic Charities of Charlotte.
Russell Elmayan, chief financial officer and chief administrative officer for the Diocese of Raleigh, explained that the response was fueled by the shared bonds of North Carolinians who have faced similar disasters.
“The Diocese of Charlotte helped us very quickly and very generously when we suffered here in our diocese from hurricanes,” Elmayan said. “Now we have the opportunity to help them.”

Catholic Charities USA has been actively involved in the disaster response, including organizing six donation collection points for supplies, which were sent to communities in Western North Carolina. This effort, carried out in partnership with the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Charities of Charlotte, has been vital in providing resources to those affected by the storm.
In addition to donation efforts, Catholic Charities has deployed staff to assist Catholic Charities of Eastern Tennessee, sending a team to Johnson City, Tennessee, to support local services and deliver life-sustaining supplies.
The organization is also preparing to conduct disaster case management training in Asheville for about 70 staff members and volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to help survivors as they rebuild.
