ABORTION // House votes today on overturning Obama’s mandate forcing states to fund Planned Parenthood. Obama’s HHS regulation blocking states from defunding Planned Parenthood from federal Title X family planning funds took effect on January 18–with just two days left in his presidency.

CABINET // Andrew Puzder, Trump’s pick for Secretary of Labor, withdrew his nomination. His announcement came hours after the release of his ex-wife’s appearance on a 1990 episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show dedicated to domestic violence. Puzder was already having difficulty getting majority support after news surfaced that he hired an illegal immigrant as a housekeeper for several years.

LABOR // Workers at a Boeing plant in South Carolina handily defeated an effort to form a union.

POLITICS // CatholicVote warns Illinois’ Republican governor to veto abortion funding bill.

THROWBACK THURSDAY // (We’re bringing back a little history–once a week). 1778 – John Adams prepares to sail for France.

MILITARY // Defense Secretary James Mattis gives NATO spending ultimatum: “No longer can the American taxpayer carry a disproportionate share of the defense of Western values. Americans cannot care more for your children’s future security than you do.”

WHITE HOUSE // Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: Time to “put to rest” anti-Semitic notions about Trump White House.
