CV NEWS FEED // Renaissance Academy, a non-profit organization affiliated with Saint Xavier University in Chicago, is offering education and social engagement for individuals aged 55 and up, according to a recent report from the Chicago Catholic.
The Academy, which was established over three decades ago, engages members through a variety of classes, forums, and events throughout the academic year, held at St. Xavier University.
The report shared that the Academy is run entirely by volunteers. Members frequently both teach and take courses on a variety of topics such as literature, artificial intelligence, genealogy, and travel.
Classes typically meet on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons at St. Xavier University. Some are offered via Zoom on Wednesdays.
One of the volunteer teachers is retired English teacher Carol Conway, who shared with Chicago Catholic, “There are a lot of teachers in the classes, a lot of people who are retired and don’t know what to do with themselves, a lot of people who love to learn, a lot of people who are readers.”
Conway shared that the program has a limit of 300 members. In the past, some applicants have been waitlisted.
