In politics, things can turn quickly.
And they just did…
Just over a week ago, I explained that CatholicVote was not ready to endorse a candidate in the GOP presidential primaries. With both Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis exiting the race, the choice is now clear.
It’s time for Catholics across America to rally behind Donald Trump for President.
As you read this message, our political team is contacting every Catholic voter in New Hampshire to urge them to back Trump over Nikki Haley tomorrow. And following the results, we will begin working in upcoming primary states, together with the top swing states to register, educate, motivate, and turn out every Catholic voter to back Trump — and defeat Joe Biden.
I know many Catholics are divided over whether Trump is the best candidate to defeat Biden. Those concerns will persist no matter what we say and do. But that’s also what primaries are for. DeSantis and Ramaswamy ran compelling campaigns. Both made their case.
But the days of indecision are over.
The only two candidates that remain are Trump and Haley. And the choice is a no-brainer.
Why now?
There are now just 287 days until the November election. We’re done waiting. We simply can’t afford to play “what if” games wondering how the electoral, legal, and numerous unknowns will play out. Politics often involves making bold decisions. And we’ve made ours.
Just this morning, the Biden administration announced a massive new push to expand child-killing drugs on the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Since his election, his administration has targeted our children, schools, and families. He’s failed to protect our churches, excused illegal FBI spying on Catholics, and called faithful citizens like you and me the biggest threat to America.
Biden’s reckless border policies have led to the exploitation of millions of migrants, with even Democratic mayors in major cities raising the alarm. In 2023 alone, over 3 million illegal immigrants entered the country.
And under Biden, record inflation, skyrocketing housing prices, and an unstable economy have pummeled the poor.
Joe Biden is the Trojan horse of far-left ideology: presented to American Catholics as a caring, faithful, and patriotic grandfather. Yet his age, mental acuity, and failures are hurting millions of Americans – including Catholic families everywhere.
But winning in November is not simply about defeating Biden.
Trump is not merely our reluctant choice.
We had four years to watch him. And he delivered. From executive orders, reform on regulations touching abortion, religious liberty, conscience, faith, and families — to wages, jobs, administration appointments, and of course, judges and the Supreme Court.
And then there’s this little achievement: the only president over the last 30 years to not involve the United States in a war.
We’ll have a lot more to say on this in the coming weeks and months.
But this fact can’t be disputed: this is no ordinary moment in American history. Commentators have rightly called this perhaps the most important election since 1860. The nation is deeply divided on hugely consequential issues. We’re not simply looking for a candidate to check certain policy boxes. We need a leader who will stand up for people like you and me, and punch back (figuratively, for our New York Times readers) against the woke bullies in government, media, corporations, and culture that seek to destroy all that we cherish.
We need a general to lead us. Someone who knows the truth and is willing to fight for it – not simply someone who will calculate the path of least resistance to accomplish some good on the margins.
There is too much at stake.
We’re proud to lead the way on Catholics for Trump.
We’ve made our choice.
I hope you’re ready to join the fight.
