CV NEWS FEED // The Catholic League has issued its response to the latest news regarding Kamala Harris’ controversial Vice President pick, Minnesota Gov. Time Walz.
“Tim Walz is no friend of religious liberty, the rights of the unborn, and the welfare of young people. There will be no tension between him and Harris on any of these issues,” the Catholic watchdog organization stated in a recent press release outlining Walz’s progressive legislative record.
Despite widespread expectations that Harris would choose the more moderate Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro to be her running mate, the current Vice President announced on Aug. 6 that Walz would join her, rendering her campaign into what many are now calling the most progressive presidential ticket in American history.
In the first place, the Catholic League pointed out, Walz has approved numerous legislative acts that explicitly target Christians, such as a 2023 bill he signed into law “that specifically excluded Christian universities with statements of faith from the Minnesota’s Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program.” The law was eventually struck after a Christian family filed suit against Walz.
Additionally, the Governor barred houses of worship from holding gatherings larger than 10 people during Covid lockdowns, even though, as Catholic League noted, “He had previously allowed retail stores, casinos, bars and restaurants to open at 50 percent capacity, and he okayed the opening of the Mall of America.”
“The hard line he took for houses of worship smacked of an anti-religious bias,” the organization added.
As for Walz’s legislative record on abortion, the Catholic League pointed out that he is “so radical that in May 2023 he signed a funding bill that repealed Minnesota’s protection for babies born following a botched abortion.”
“In other words,” the release continued, Walz “legalized selective infanticide.”
The Catholic League further noted that Walz has repeatedly signed into law bills that have “exploited young people.”
In 2023, for example, Walz signed a law that banned healthcare professionals from providing what is referred to as “conversion therapy” to minors who regret their decision to undergo sex change surgeries or hormone treatments:
Walz wants to stop teenage girls (80 percent of those who “transition” to the other sex are females) from having the right to correct the mistake they made—often aided and abetted by corrupt therapists and medical professionals—in attempting to change their sex.
These exploited young people want to “detransition” back to their father-determined sex, but Walz wants to take this right away from them.
Furthermore, Walz also signed a law in 2023 that turned Minnesota into a “transgender sanctuary state.” As the Catholic League explained, the law effectively granted the state’s court “temporary emergency jurisdiction” over minor children whose parents did not allow their children “access to gender affirming care.”
“If a child runs away, and moves to a state to receive ‘gender-affirming care,’ Minnesota would not return the child to his parents under this law,” the release added: “Similarly, in a custody battle, a parent could take the child to Minnesota for “gender-affirming care” and the out-of-state parent would have no recourse in Minnesota’s courts.”
