CV NEWS FEED // Two Catholic comedians are working to foster community and joy within parishes and Catholic communities with a clean stand-up comedy show called “Catholic Laughter.”
Comedian duo Carl Kozlowski and Scott Vinci founded Catholic Laughter in Los Angeles, California, and have begun expanding to other locations across the nation, including Cleveland, Dallas, and Chicago.
“In a post-pandemic world, parishes everywhere face the challenge of rebuilding a sense of community and spirit among their flocks,” a Catholic Laughter email press release reads. “Catholic Laughter offers a fun, memorable, and unique solution – by presenting a night of clean stand-up comedy with a Catholic twist!”
“Kozlowski, who serves as the MC, and feature act Vinci always guarantee a headliner comic from the top late-night comedy shows on television,” the press release stated. “Their star performers have been seen on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,’ David Letterman, ‘The Tonight Show’ and Conan O’Brien’s beloved chatfest ‘Conan.’”
Kozlowski said in the press release, “This way, we can promise a show that’s not only clean, but absolutely hilarious. We offer a night that doesn’t rely on obscenities or sexual content to get laughs. It’s guilt-free comedy!”
Vinci added, “We try to poke a little gentle fun at our Catholic world. We want to bring a sense of community. The audiences always appreciate a Catholic joke.”
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has “fully endorsed” Catholic Laughter and the archdiocese’ Young Adult Ministry has collaborated with the comedy group, enabling the duo “[to bring] their mirthful magic to delighted audiences all across their home base of Los Angeles.”
The Catholic streaming platform is also partnering with Vinci and Kozlowski to create a podcast called the Catholic Laughter show, that will consistently feature an “informative look at unusual saints called ‘Saints’ Corner,’” the press release stated:
But the heart of each episode is an in-depth interview with veteran TV-worthy comedians, humor writers, and other “name” comedy-world figures as they discuss the impact faith has on their lives and careers. It’s a funny and fascinating look at the intersection between personal beliefs and public performance.
With their clean stand-up comedy show, Kozlowski and Vinci will continue to “[bring] a spirit-filled night of hilarity that creates an electric and vital sense of community, making this a great FUN-raiser for any Catholic parish, college, conference, fundraiser or retreat.”
