CV NEWS FEED // Catholic influencers have begun using social media as the newest — and most effective, some argue — form of evangelization.
The Catholic Weekly highlighted the example of three influencers who have successfully used social media to evangelize: Sachin Jose, Jessica Bond, and Joseph Dinesh.
Sachin Jose has grown his social media following to more than 175,000 followers on X and 104,000 on Instagram, sharing inspirational Catholic stories, Catholic news, and more on his accounts.
“Social media is the most effective tool for evangelisation today, much more so than television,” Jose said, according to the Catholic Weekly. “We have so many platforms where we can share the message — through videos, images, posts, podcasts, and more.”
Bond is the founder of Salt + Gold, a ministry well-known online for its “footwashing series,” a set of images depicting Jesus washing the feet of various people, including a bride, a convict, and an abortion supporter. The ministry’s tagline is “It’s not about who’s on the seat, it’s about Who’s washing the feet.”
Bond explained her ministry of digital creation and evangelization to the Catholic Weekly.
“I just keep reminding myself every time I create something that I believe the Lord is asking me to design and to share, that I’m just trying to be obedient to him,” she said, later adding: “I want to have the fear of the Lord, not fear of man. So even if people hate it, it doesn’t matter.”
Dinesh runs a YouTube channel called JD Catholic Engage, which he started in 2021. The channel features Catholic news and commentary and currently has almost 40,000 subscribers.
According to the Catholic Weekly, his videos stem from a desire to help others know more about their faith.
The Catholic Weekly also noted that digital evangelization presents unique problems, like dealing with negative comments or trying to engage online with people who have differing views.
However, “What Sachin, Jess, and Joseph illustrate is that evangelisation today requires a mix of creativity, conviction, and adaptability,” The Catholic Weekly reported, adding:
They are meeting people where they are at and using their platforms to invite them into a deeper relationship with Christ, a relationship that will ultimately change their life for the better.
