CV NEWS FEED // Kyle Seraphin, a former FBI special agent turned whistleblower, told interviewer Erika Ahern that the FBI “should be abolished” on a soon-to-be-released episode of CatholicVote’s LOOPcast.
Seraphin, a practicing Catholic, published a document on February 8 from the FBI’s Richmond office tying “radical-traditionalist Catholics” to violent white supremacist movements. The revelation elicited a nationwide backlash from Catholic leaders, forcing a retraction from the FBI National Press Office.
No Redemption for FBI
In the LOOPcast interview, which will be released on February 16, Ahern asked Seraphin, “What would have to change for you to go back to the FBI?”
“I don’t want to go back and work for the FBI. I think it needs to be abolished,” Seraphin replied. “How do you fix it? Show me someone who has the will to fire [everyone at the senior levels of the FBI]… and everyone who runs the field offices. Because that’s what it would take.”
The document published by Seraphin includes a list of nine “Radical-Traditionalist Catholic Hate Groups” published by the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC), a disgraced left-wing activist group. Seraphin confirmed that in the past, the FBI has instructed agents to avoid SPLC as a source.
Targeting Catholics
“There is a very loud, evil agenda… that leads to unhappiness and disconnection from God,” Seraphin said in the interview. “That agenda is being pushed in this country by secular forces in the government. And it’s being pushed back on by people in the Catholic Church who are looking for something more.”
The FBI is representing a “vested interest” that is anti-Catholic. “As Americans… we should be looking out for the religious freedoms of everybody,” he said.
Seraphin sees the FBI report as a “gateway” to the federal government internally declaring “open season” on all Christian citizens.
“Opening a door into what they consider fringe Catholicism is dangerous…. The government has to be agnostic about religion,” he said. “The answer to this issue is: stay out of religion and stop trying to pick winners and losers in this fight.”
“It’s very dangerous, and this is a terrible document,” Seraphin stated. “Which is why they rescinded it.”
The FBI’s Good Servant, God’s First
Seraphin told CatholicVote he gets his courage from the Church’s history of white and red martyrs:
Our ancestors in faith literally went down into the Catacombs so they could celebrate the Mass… people have died over going against an unlawful and overreaching government that shut down Masses.
In the interview, he called on Catholic leaders to hold the FBI and other intelligence agencies accountable for the permissive culture that led to this document.
