CV NEWS FEED // Catholic churches and organizations have donated $834,000 to oppose Florida’s radically pro-abortion Amendment 4, accounting for the vast majority of money donated from religious institutions to oppose the ban.
An article from Miami Herald stated that religious institutions accounted for more than a third of donations to Florida Voters Against Extremism PAC, which is the group responsible for the campaign “Vote No on 4.” Religious institutions have donated almost $850,000 to the organization. The article noted that the Archdiocese of Miami’s campaign, “Vote No on Amendment 4,” spreads messaging through videos, social media, fact sheets, prayer events, and workshops.
Archbishop Thomas Wenski wrote a column in May for the archdiocesan newspaper in which he urged “all Catholics and people of good will” to vote against Amendment 4.
“Even those who do not agree with the Church teaching that human life begins at conception should find reasons to oppose this amendment,” Archbishop Wenski wrote, saying that the amendment would overturn “common-sense” laws that regulate abortion.
The amendment would eliminate “basic health and safety requirements for clinics where abortions are performed, requiring a physician to perform abortions, informed consent requirements, laws limiting public funding of abortion, and parental consent requirements before a minor’s abortion,” the Archbishop continued.
Archbishop Wenski compared abortion to other 20th-century genocides, saying that the Catholic Church rejected all ideologies that consider human beings as “problems.”
A recent poll shows that support for Amendment 4 is decreasing, as CatholicVote previously reported.
Former President Donald Trump, a Florida resident, also recently announced that he will vote against Amendment 4.
