CV NEWS FEED // Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri has expanded its resources for pregnant women experiencing homelessness by opening its second LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home in the state this month.
The new in-residence Home is located in Cape Girardeau, on Catholic Charities’ Little Flower Campus. Catholic Charities is celebrating the second LifeHouse’s grand opening on April 19 with a ribbon cutting ceremony, and an open house on April 20, according to local news outlet KFVS 12.
LifeHouse’s program serves pregnant women experiencing homelessness and offers them resources such as counseling, case management, and material support.
“LifeHouse is not just a shelter, but a comprehensive program with the goal of creating a better life for mother and child,” reads the Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri website.
“The mission of LifeHouse is to provide a safe, nurturing home and supportive services for women who have chosen life for their unborn child,” the website adds.
KFVS 12 reported that the staff of LifeHouse includes social work case managers, a registered nurse, a mental health counselor, and administrative staff, who will live on-site along with up to 15 residents at a time.
Construction for the new residency began in 2023. Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri’s website states of the new location:
Throughout the construction process, Bishop [Edward] Rice [of Springfield-Cape Girardeau], staff members, and volunteers visited the construction site to write blessings and Bible verses on the inside of the walls. Although the words won’t be visible, they will serve as hidden reminders of God’s love.
