CV NEWS FEED // The advocacy and legal coalition Catholic Benefits Association (CBA) will host two upcoming webinars for CBA members on the coalition’s efforts to protect its members from challenges and pressure to violate on their religious beliefs.
As CatholicVote reported in September, the CBA and its co-plaintiff, the Diocese of Bismarck, received a preliminary injunction from a judge that protects them from the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) pro-abortion and pro-in vitro fertilization mandates.
The webinar is limited to CBA members and those who are considering joining the CBA, the organization’s Director of Communications Dave Uebbing confirmed to CatholicVote via email. The membership criteria for parties interested in joining can be found here.
The CBA will host the webinars on October 29 and October 30, in which CBA’s counsel Martin Nussbaum will present on the coalition’s efforts against EEOC’s pro-abortion accommodations mandate, the preliminary injunction, and what CBA members must do “to preserve those protections,” according to a recent internal mailer to members from the Catholic coalition. Nussbaum will also explain what non-CBA members can do “to access those protections.”
“As the legislative and regulatory landscape continues to shift, we provide guidance to our members to strengthen their Catholic identity in the workplace,” CBA’s internal mailer states. “When necessary, we engage in legal advocacy to preserve their right to do business in a manner that is consistent with the Catholic faith.”
Archbishop William Lori of the Archdiocese of Baltimore is the Chairman of CBA’s Board of Directors. The Board also includes seven other archbishops, one bishop, several religious sisters, and several lay people.
