CV NEWS FEED // The College of Cardinals in Rome has finalized the liturgical schedule for a nine-day period of mourning, known as the Novemdiales, following the death of Pope Francis.
This time-honored tradition will begin with the Holy Father’s funeral Mass on Saturday, April 26, and continue with daily Eucharistic celebrations offered for the repose of his soul, Vatican News reported.
The public is welcome to attend the Masses, each celebrated by a different cardinal and accompanied by groups closely associated with the late pontiff’s life and ministry.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin will preside over the second day’s Mass for Vatican staff; Cardinal Baldassare Reina for the Diocese of Rome on the third day; Cardinal Mauro Gambetti for the Papal Basilicas on the fourth; Cardinal Leonardo Sandri for the Papal Chapel on the fifth; Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández for the Roman Curia on the sixth; Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti for the Eastern Churches on the seventh; Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime for religious orders on the eighth; and Cardinal Dominique Mamberti for the Papal Chapel again on the ninth day.
The series of Masses was approved during the cardinals’ second General Congregation Wednesday evening.
