CV NEWS FEED // A California Court has ruled in favor of a southern California school district’s right to maintain its parental notification policies and keep critical race theory (CRT) out of its classrooms.
Temecula Valley Unified School District (TVUSD)’s legal team at Advocates for Faith and Freedom announced the Court’s decision in a press release on Friday, with Advocates for Faith and Freedom President Robert Tyler calling it “a win for commonsense, parents, and the safety of students.”
The Temecula Valley Educators Association and a group of political advocates filed a lawsuit against the school district last year, “challenging a resolution that restricts false and divisive CRT curriculum and requires teachers to inform parents of their students’ gender transition.”
“TVUSD is committed to providing a quality education free from political agendas and free from dishonest and divisive curriculum. This ruling allows TVUSD to continue implementing these sound policies,” said Tyler.
Vice President Maria Gondeiro of Advocates for Faith and Freedom described the lawsuit as “a hard fought battle that paid off for parents.”
“This ruling vindicates the actions taken by the TVUSD School Board who put the rights of parents and the safety of students over the wishes of special interest groups,” she added.
The initial complaint stated that the district’s policies harmed “all school children,” but particularly “children of color and LGBTQ children, stigmatizing their identities, histories, and cultures.”
The filing also accused the district of causing students to be “deprived of the opportunity to engage in factual investigation, freely discuss ideas, and develop critical thinking and reasoning skills.”
President of the TVUSD school board Dr Joseph Komrosky reacted to the decision stating:
Despite the small but vocal opponents that seek to rewrite history and indoctrinate students, I am very optimistic for our school district. […] Our district remains focused on providing a holistic education for all of our students, free from both discrimination and indoctrination.
