Politico just announced the breaking news…
According to reports, President Trump may sign an executive order on religious liberty as soon as Thursday.
Thursday is also the National Day of Prayer…and I will be joining fellow Christian leaders in the Rose Garden at the White House representing CatholicVote.org.
You and I have been waiting for this moment.
Religious liberty is not just one among many issues. It is foundational — and absolutely critical to our schools, hospitals, and charities. In fact, it is critical to the future of America, for freedom, rightly understood, cannot survive without the foundation of religious liberty.
Each day brings another attack on our religious liberty. Just this week, the ACLU sued a Catholic hospital for not performing a surgery for a transgendered person. Small business owners across the country are being forced to close their doors because of their beliefs. It’s because of these imminent threats that we’ve lobbied the White House, organized petitions, calls, videos and more calling for critical protections for people of faith.
You may recall we even secured a personal commitment from candidate Trump specifically focused on religious liberty during the campaign last year.
If reports prove true, our persistence may soon bear fruit…
As Politico reports:
Pence and a small team of conservative allies quickly began working behind the scenes …and in recent weeks have ratcheted up the pressure on Trump to sign it. The new draft is being tightly held, but one influential conservative who saw the text said it hasn’t been dialed back much—if at all—since the February leak. “The language is very, very strong,” the source said.
This is amazing news!!!
There will be a lot of people at the White House on Thursday.
I doubt I will be able to speak directly to the President. But if I do, I hope to deliver a big thank you on behalf of all of you.
I ask you to keep this effort in your prayers this week.
And, as always, please continue to pray for our President, and all political leaders.
