The Vatican has announced that Pope Leo XIV will meet with the College of Cardinals June 13 to approve the canonizations of several Blesseds, including the beloved Italian layman Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.
The meeting, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. in the Consistory Hall of the Apostolic Palace, will include the celebration of Terce and the formal deliberation regarding the canonization schedule.
Frassati, born in Italy in 1901, was known for his vibrant faith, love for the poor, and passion for the outdoors. A member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic, he quietly served those in need while living a life deeply rooted in prayer, the Eucharist, and devotion to Mary.
While his canonization had been widely anticipated during the 2025 Jubilee Year, especially alongside Blessed Carlo Acutis, the death of Pope Francis had placed earlier expectations into question.
The June 13 consistory will also include scheduling the canonizations of Ignazio Choukrallah Maloyan, Peter To Rot, Vincenza Maria Poloni, Maria del Monte Carmelo Rendiles Martínez, Maria Troncatti, José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros, and Bartolo Longo.
Editor’s note: This story has been revised for accuracy. The article originally stated that Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati would be canonized on June 13, but the June 13 event, upon further review, is instead a meeting to formally approve canonizations.
