CV NEWS FEED // Former President Donald Trump’s scheduled visit to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, this weekend has been canceled.
According to the Bucks County Herald, Trump’s reelection campaign announced the cancellation on September 19 but did not provide a reason.
Archdiocese of Philadelphia Chief Communications Officer Kenneth Gavin told CatholicVote in an email statement that the Archdiocese was not involved in the decision to cancel the visit.
“The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa is neither operated nor owned by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia,” Gavin stated. “It is run [by] the Pauline Fathers and Brothers, which is a religious order. The Archdiocese had no role in the decision making process.”
He added that “it is important to note that the Archdiocese neither endorses nor opposes any candidate for political office.”
The Shrine did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication.
As CatholicVote previously reported, Trump was reportedly going to visit the Shrine on September 22. Polish President Andrzej Duda is also going to visit the Shrine on September 22.
According to a September 20 report by The Patch, Duda is still set to attend Mass at the Shrine, as well as a ceremony unveiling a new monument honoring “those who fought for Polish independence after World War II and the Solidarity movement,” which will both take place in the afternoon.
