CV NEWS FEED // The Archdiocese of San Francisco recently urged residents of the city to vote against a ballot initiative that would use taxpayer money to protect abortion facilities and target crisis pregnancy centers.
Proposition O, also known as the “Reproductive Freedom Act,” is supported by Democrat Mayor London Breed. The main way it would target crisis pregnancy centers is by placing signs outside the buildings that would tell visitors where to find facilities that provide abortions and emergency contraception.
“By requiring signage that would single out these state-licensed health care clinics, which it terms ‘limited services pregnancy organizations,’ Proposition O would endanger their employees, volunteers, patients and clients,” the Archdiocese of San Francisco stated in a September 23 article, later adding:
This flies in the face of the measure’s language “People in San Francisco should always be able to access reproductive healthcare services free from coercion, threat, violence or fear.” Having babies is at the heart of reproductive health care!
The proposed initiative also states that it will use state funds to support abortions and emergency contraceptives as well as “restrict City officers and employees from cooperating with state or federal prosecutions as to reproductive health care that is provided or obtained lawfully in California.”
According to the Archdiocese, Breed also plans on “using San Francisco taxpayer funds to pay for security guards outside the city’s Planned Parenthood clinic on Bush Street and plans to continue that funding going forward.”
The Archdiocese urged voters to vote no on the proposition in order to give pregnant women the option to choose life.
