CV NEWS FEED // The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), has announced the appointment of Father Paul-Anthony Halladay as its new vocations director.
A retired U.S. Army chaplain with 20 years of distinguished service, Fr. Halladay succeeds interim director Father Marcel Taillon, according to a press release from AMS.
Archbishop for the Military Services Timothy P. Broglio announced the appointment Jan. 3, with the position effective Jan. 22. Expressing confidence in the new director, Archbishop Broglio noted Fr. Halladay’s extensive military chaplaincy experience and deep understanding of the Archdiocese.
Reflecting on his new role, Fr. Halladay shared his initial surprise at the offer extended by Monsignor Anthony R. Frontiero, AMS Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, and affirmed his dedication to serving the AMS.
“The Lord has a consistent track record of completely surprising me when it comes to where He’s calling me to serve Him,” Fr. Halladay noted. “I look very much forward to serving the AMS and the young men we have in discernment for the Priesthood and Military Chaplaincy.”
As vocations director, Fr. Halladay will guide young men discerning a calling to the priesthood and military chaplaincy, providing support throughout their formation journey.
Fr. Halladay retired from the U.S. Army in September 2024 after a career that included deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He received honors such as the Bronze Star Medal and Defense Meritorious Service Medal. Before his appointment, he served briefly as associate director of the Propaedeutic Program at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, California.
Fr. Halladay’s diverse background includes service as a Peace Corps volunteer, academic achievements in theology and leadership, and pastoral ministry in both civilian and military contexts. He served in various chaplaincy roles within the U.S. Army, including deployments with the 101st Airborne Division and NATO missions. Additionally, he held leadership positions at West Point and U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys in South Korea, overseeing large Catholic communities and chaplain programs.
