CV NEWS FEED // Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the Archdiocese for Military Services (AMS) will lead a group of Catholics in the military on a five-day pilgrimage to Rome honoring Jubilee Year 2025.
The pilgrimage is set for Feb. 6-10 and coincides with the Holy See’s Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police, and Security Personnel, according to an AMS press release. Seventeen military members from bases around the US and the world, along with their families, are attending.
The pilgrimage will include visiting the burial sites of Saints Lawrence, Stephen, and Justin Martyr at the Basilica of St. Lawrence; the Scala Sancta (Holy Stairs) near the Basilica of St. John Lateran; and the St. Sebastian Catacombs.
The pilgrims will attend Mass at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls and St. Peter’s Basilica and venerate the Passion relics at the Basilica of the Holy Cross. At the request of the Holy See, one service member will serve as a lector for the Feb. 9 Papal Mass.
On Feb. 10, the pilgrims will visit the World War II Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial, where 7,845 American heroes are buried, including Father Martin J. O’Gara, S.J. (1907-1946), a U.S. Army chaplain who sacrificed his life for his fellow soldiers during a plane crash in the Mediterranean Sea.
“Responding to the Holy Father’s invitation to celebrate this ordinary Jubilee of Hope is a privilege,” Archbishop Broglio stated. “I look forward to introducing our pilgrims to the Eternal City where I spent 19 years of my life. It should be an immensely spiritual visit.”
