CV NEWS FEED // The Archbishop of Denver took to social media on Sunday to promote a recent EWTN interview with Kansas City Chiefs’ Harrison Butker, a proud Catholic and father.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, over the weekend, Archbishop Samuel Joseph Aquila shared the “EWTN News in Depth” interview with Butker, describing it as a “must see for all dads, especially Catholic fathers.”
Butker, the Archbishop continued, “provides a great witness of what it means to live your faith in the world. His humility and courage are exemplary!”
A devout Catholic, Butker spoke in the interview about his experience navigating the demands of both his career and family. “As a father,” he said, “I can set a good example [or] I could set a bad example. [Children] are going to observe any mannerisms I do, they’re going to observe how I treat they’re mother, and my wife.”
The NFL kicker emphasized the importance of prioritizing family through quality time, prayer, and Mass attendance, regardless of his rigorous schedule. Despite the challenge, “God allowed me to have the best season of my career,” said Butker.
“We need strong fathers in the home,” said Butker in response to the fatal shooting which occurred at the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade after the 2024 Super Bowl Sunday.
He continued:
I think we need men that are leading, that are setting good examples, that are teaching the young men in our society that violence is not the way to handle our disputes.
I don’t think guns are the issue. I think we need fathers in the home that are being great examples for our youth.
Lisa López-Galván, the woman who was killed in the dispute, had been wearing a Kansas City Chiefs jersey with Butker’s number on it when she died. López-Galván was also Catholic, and had admired Butker’s witness to the faith. The Chiefs kicker revealed in the interview that he sent the family one of his own jerseys, which she was subsequently buried in.
