CV NEWS FEED // An American teenager has been arrested in Paris after allegedly throwing her newborn baby out of a window on the second story of a hotel, resulting in the infant’s death.
The incident, which is being investigated as a homicide of a minor under 15 years old, occurred the morning of Feb. 24. According to CNN, the teen’s age was reported by French media to be 18.
Sky News reported that the newborn still possessed the umbilical cord and was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead. The mother was taken to the hospital as well for medical treatment after giving birth and was placed in custody there.
The teen was reportedly traveling through Europe with a group of other young adults through a Massachusetts-based organization that facilitates travel programs abroad, according to AP News. The organization, EF Gap Year, said it is “deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event” and is currently cooperating with local authorities to further the investigation into the infant’s death.
AP News also reported that officials are considering “the possibility of pregnancy denial, a condition in which a woman remains unaware of or in denial about her pregnancy until labor.”
