Pro-life leaders across the country are welcoming the Senate’s recent passage of the Big Beautiful Bill Act, calling the vote a decisive victory in the effort to remove taxpayer funding from abortion providers.
The bill, which passed 51 – 50 with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote, includes a one-year moratorium on federal funds going to any organization that performs or promotes abortion, including Planned Parenthood.
Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life, called the outcome “a monumental step forward for unborn children and their mothers.”
“We thank every pro-life senator who stood firm in defense of innocent human life and voted to direct federal tax dollars away from the abortion industry,” she said in a press release from the organization.
She also praised Senate GOP leadership for maintaining the provision throughout negotiations, saying their efforts “reflect the will of millions of Americans.”
Students for Life Action (SFLA) also responded to the bill’s passage, pointing to the impact of grassroots pro-life activism in helping secure even a temporary halt to federal abortion funding.
“The win is shared by those who have tirelessly engaged in calling on the Republican leadership to act,” SFLA President Kristin Hawkins said, noting the efforts of volunteers who “door knocked, called, and voted their pro-life values.”
Hawkins called the vote “a silver lining” in what she described as a compromised version of the original House bill, which had proposed a 10-year funding block. She argued that the one-year pause should serve as a launchpad for future legislative action, adding, “We will vote Pro-Life first.”
Lila Rose, founder of Live Action, echoed that sentiment in a social media post, describing the vote as “a start but not enough.”
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, also issued a statement supporting the bill’s passage.
“Congress took a major step toward ending the forced taxpayer funding of the Big Abortion industry — a crucial victory in the fight against abortion, America’s leading cause of death, and an industry that endangers women and girls,” Dannenfelser said in a press release. “We urge the House to finish the work immediately so President Trump can sign it into law. SBA Pro-Life America will proudly score this vote which is the highest priority pro-life vote in decades.”
