Residents of Rock Springs, Wyoming, recently took part in the city’s fifth annual March for Life, joining together to voice their support for unborn children and their families.
About 100 people joined the June 28 event, walking from South Main Street to the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery, Wyoming News Now reported. Many carried signs with phrases such as “Babies Are a Gift from God” and “Love Life, Choose Life.” At the cemetery, they paused at a monument labeled “Memorial to the Unborn,” which commemorates lives lost to abortion.
Wyoming’s abortion policies remain a subject of legal contention, according to Wyoming News Now. House Bill 64, which mandates an ultrasound at least 48 hours before a chemical abortion, remains on the books but is not being enforced due to a court challenge.
Katie Gilmore, marketing coordinator for Inside Connection–Southwest Wyoming Pregnancy Resource Center, stressed the importance of ultrasound access.
“Seeing that ultrasound makes it real to you,” she told Wyoming News Now. “When a woman sees that ultrasound, it can be a life-changing moment.”
While legal debates continue, speakers and attendees focused on the broader goal of supporting life in all its forms.
Sweetwater County resident Haley Robertson described the motivation behind the gathering, saying that participants were there to affirm the value of both unborn children and their families.
“We march for everyone. Not only the life of the unborn child, but also the life of the one who carries that child, the life of the father and the life of the family,” Robertson told Wyoming News Now. “The support systems in the community can either step in with grace or step away in silence. We choose to step in. We walk not in judgment, but in love.”
Mayor Max Mickelson, who attended in a personal capacity, noted the need for compassion and understanding across differing views.
“We really need more people to represent Christ’s love over the course of our lives,” he told Wyoming News Now.
March participant Linda Smith said her appreciation for the dignity of life has grown with time.
“Since I’ve gotten older, I realize every life is precious,” she said. “We’re all here for a reason.”
