A majority of Americans say violent rioters in Los Angeles should be prosecuted and strongly support President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda, according to a new national poll conducted amid unrest and political tensions regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.
The survey, conducted June 9-11, found that 68% of Americans believe the violent anti-ICE rioters in Los Angeles should face prosecution. Among Hispanic respondents, 64% agreed, a notable finding as immigrant voters continue shifting rightward.
The poll was taken just days after the dangerous riots erupted in Los Angeles on June 6, and as California Gov. Gavin Newsom publicly clashed with Trump over federal efforts to restore order.
“In a country that is deeply politically divided, such supermajority numbers stand out,” Steve Cortes, CatholicVote senior political advisor, wrote in a Daily Caller report. “On this foundational issue of the America First agenda, we on the populist Right occupy the political, ethical, and legal high ground.”
Beyond calls for prosecution, the survey showed robust support for Trump’s immigration strategy: 60% of Americans support mass deportations, while just 32% oppose it, and 65% say Trump has secured operational control over the border. Catholic voters support mass deportations by a commanding 64-29% margin.
“So, across lines of race, ethnicity, age, geography, and religion,” Cortes added, “Americans massively rally to the America First vision of a country of rules and safety, a land that only welcomes new Americans through a rigorous, lawful process.”
Meanwhile, other recent polls have backed this trend.
CNN data analyst Harry Enten recently noted that no group shifted more to the right between 2020 and 2024 than immigrant voters, with immigration emerging as a key issue, CatholicVote previously reported.
Aggregate data released by CNN June 9 found that Trump’s net approval on immigration has surged from -21% during his first term to +1% today.
As CatholicVote reported June 17, recent polls have discovered that most Americans disapprove of the Los Angeles riots, further underscoring the national preference for law and order.
