CV NEWS FEED // A video of Pope Francis recorded Jan. 8 was released on April 27, the day after his funeral and as teenagers from around the world gathered in Rome for the Jubilee of Teenagers.
The video, Vatican News reported, was published by Italian news outlet Oggi (Today). In the video, Pope Francis addressed young people in “Listening Workshops,” an Italian initiative founded to connect young people and adults.
Pope Francis told young people to “listen to your grandparents — they teach us so much.”
“Dear boys and girls, one of the most important things in life is to listen — to learn how to listen,” he said. “When someone speaks to you, wait for them to finish so you can really understand, and then, if you feel like it, respond. But the important thing is to listen.”
He also said that often, people are so busy formulating their own response that they cannot listen to the other person that is speaking.
“Look closely at people — people don’t listen,” he said. “Halfway through an explanation, they’ll answer, and that doesn’t help peace. Listen — listen a lot.”
Vatican News also reported that on April 27 the Vatican observed the second day of Novemdiales, the nine days of mourning for the late Pope beginning with his funeral, which coincided with Divine Mercy Sunday.
Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s Square was offered for the repose of the Pope’s soul. In his homily to the 200,000 people gathered, Cardinal Pietro Parolin encouraged the youth to embrace the late Pope’s teachings on mercy.
