CV NEWS FEED // The Papal Foundation, the only United States-based nonprofit dedicated to serving the Church according to the Holy Father’s requests, has released a statement upon the death of Pope Francis.
“The Papal Foundation, along with the Universal Catholic Church, prays for the soul of Pope Francis,” wrote Papal Foundation President Ward Fitzgerald in an April 21 emailed press release, the day of Pope Francis’ passing.
Founded in 1988, the Papal Foundation has supported more than 2,000 projects selected by Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis, through $250 million in grants and scholarships, according to their website.
“Throughout his Papacy, Pope Francis taught that true leadership is rooted in love and serving others,” Fitzgerald continued. “Known for his simplicity and humility, Pope Francis led with his heart, modeling the love of Jesus by serving the poor and marginalized around the globe, often stating ‘My people are poor, and I am one of them.’ His dedication to social justice was evidenced in his commitment to The Papal Foundation, caring for our most vulnerable brothers and sisters in developing nations throughout the world.”
Fitzgerald urged Catholics to remember Pope Francis’ teachings and that leaders are called to serve others.
He concluded, “Please join us as we pray, Holy Father, Requiescat in Pace.”
