CV NEWS FEED // Illegal crossings at the southern border fell to record lows in March 2025, according to newly released data from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The report revealed that Border Patrol recorded fewer apprehensions during the entire month than were logged in just the first two days of March 2024 under the Biden administration.
“U.S. Border Patrol’s apprehensions along the southwest border for the entire month of March 2025 were lower than the first two days of March 2024,” said Acting Commissioner of CBP Pete Flores.
“This is a testament to the tireless dedication and vigilant service of the men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who work every day to keep our country safe,” he added. “Their commitment on the front lines plays a vital role in securing our borders and protecting American communities.”
Just 7,181 illegal immigrants were apprehended last month—down 95% from 137,473 in March 2024. Encounters at ports of entry also fell dramatically, averaging 673 per day, an 81% drop from last year’s daily March average of 3,464.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised the results as a direct outcome of President Donald Trump’s border policies.
“Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, Border Patrol agents are now back to doing the jobs they signed up for,” she said.
The CBP report cited increased enforcement measures and support from the Defense Department, noting a “dramatic increase” in active patrols along international borders.
“Aliens are receiving the [Trump] administration’s message: if you cross the border illegally, you will be deported,” the report stated.
March marks the second consecutive month of historically low border apprehensions since Trump returned to office.
At the same time, drug confiscation efforts surged. The CBP seized 760 pounds of fentanyl in March, a 24% increase from February. Total drug seizures, including heroin, cocaine, meth, and marijuana, rose 47% over February totals.
Trump celebrated the milestone Tuesday morning, writing in all caps, “Border crossings hit all time record low in March!!!”
