CV NEWS FEED // Archbishop José H. Gomez this week invited Los Angeles Catholics on a six-mile “Pilgrimage of Hope” in honor of the 2025 Jubilee of Hope.
The April 5 pilgrimage will go from All Souls Church in Alhambra to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Archbishop Gomez wrote in Angelus News.
According to a press release from the Archdiocese, the relics of more than 10 saints and soon-to-be-saints will accompany the faithful along the journey – including St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis Xavier Cabrini, St. John Vianney, St. Maria Goretti, Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.
The archbishop noted that one of the Lenten Eucharistic prayers asks for the freedom to “so deal with the things of this passing world as to hold rather to the things that eternally endure.” That freedom, he wrote, is hope.
“Hope is not just a sentiment, a warm wish that things will work out alright or be better in the future,” the archbishop wrote. “Hope is a pillar, an anchor, one of three ‘theological virtues’ that form the foundation of our relationship with God and our lives as Christians.”
He added that Christ’s promise of heaven is the source of man’s hope, but in the flurry of school, work, and family life, man often forgets to think about heaven. Thus, he must be more intentional about cultivating hope as a virtue.
“We can start by making acts of trust in Jesus, asking him often during the course of the day to help us to rely on his strength and not our own,” he wrote. “Let’s also try to reflect more about our Lord’s promises of heaven, especially as we prepare for the final days of this sacred season, in which we remember his passion and resurrection.”
The archbishop asked for the intercession of the Blessed Mother to help Christians live in hope.
