CV NEWS FEED // A Catholic soprano opera singer is set to offer her extensive talents in a tribute concert to St. Mother Teresa during a February 2025 show in New York, according to the New York Archdiocesan online publication.
The Good Newsroom reports that soprano Catherine Wethington will be performing on February 22 in “Journey of Faith: A Musical Tribute to Mother Teresa.”
In an exclusive interview with the Good Newsroom, Wethington shared about how Mother Teresa has inspired her personally, citing her trust and faith in God especially amid making difficult decisions.
“She had this faith so young, this feeling in her gut that she knew… that she needed to go, and leave her family and take a chance, and devote herself to helping those in need, to devote herself to helping the marginalized, devote herself to fighting for peace throughout the world and giving people dignity [who] weren’t necessarily recognized,” Wethington said.
Wethington, along with baritone Sean Michael Plumb, the tribute’s chorale, and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, will perform the tribute at the elegant Stern Auditorium and Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Dante Anzolini, who has a background in contemporary, Baroque, and Romantic music, will be conducting. Throughout his career, he has conducted with orchestras in various countries around the world, and spent eight years as Music Director of the MIT Symphony and Chamber Orchestras in Boston, Massachusetts.
The musical tribute honoring the saint and founder of the Missionaries of Charity begins at 8pm local time. “Mother Teresa was truly a global pioneer in bringing God’s work to many, and the performance will be a curation of music with both historical significance and modern interpretations of her life,” the concert’s press release states. “It is only fitting that her legacy be honored with an evening that is sure to impress, entertain, and most importantly, inspire.”
