CV NEWS FEED // Rome’s utility group Acea announced Dec. 16 that a new state-of-the-art lighting system for the 140 statues atop the Colonnade of St. Peter’s Square will be installed as part of several initiatives planned for the Jubilee of Hope in 2025.
The lighting project, carried out by Areti, Acea’s public and artistic lighting division, involves 280 LED projectors designed to highlight the intricate details of the “Council of Saints” while minimizing environmental impact, Vatican News reported.
Additional upgrades include the transformation of public LED lighting in St. Peter’s Square, the chandeliers along Bernini’s colonnade, and the iconic Via della Conciliazione, which leads to the square.
Acea has also installed 14 new “Water Houses” at strategic locations throughout Rome to provide free drinking water for the millions of pilgrims and tourists expected during the Jubilee. Two of these stations, located near the Vatican Museums, are to be blessed by Pope Francis.
To further assist visitors, Acea launched the “Acquea” app, which geolocates more than 150,000 water points across Rome and provides real-time water quality information in Italian, English, and Spanish.
The utility company is also supporting the Jubilee of Adolescents, an event set for April 25–27, 2025, which is expected to draw over 100,000 young people.
Archbishop Rino Fisichella, coordinator of Jubilee 2025, expressed gratitude for Acea’s contributions and their commitment to sustainability.
