CV NEWS FEED // The Ladies’ Professional Golf Association (LPGA) recently updated its gender policy, in light of a working group of experts finding that the “effects of male puberty confer competitive advantages in golf performance compared to players who have not undergone male puberty.”
Under the new rules, the LPGA only allows true females and true males who were subjected to puberty blockers before the age of 12 (or before the second stage of puberty) to compete in their elite tournaments.
These updates mean that golfer Hailey (born James Scott) Davidson will not be allowed to compete in any of these tournaments.
Daily Mail reports that Davidson responded to the decision in an Instagram story.
“Can’t say I didn’t see this coming. Banned from the Epson and LPGA,’ Davidson wrote. ‘All the silence and people wanting to stay ‘neutral’ thanks for absolutely nothing. This happened because of all your silence.”
Daily Mail adds that Davidson did not qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open this year.
Women’s rights activist Victoria Coley, a member of the Independent Women’s Forum, celebrated the new policy, and the 300 professional female golfers whose protests led to the changes.
