CV NEWS FEED // President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Dave Weldon, a staunch pro-life advocate and former Florida representative, to serve as the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Live Action reported that Weldon has consistently championed pro-life legislation throughout his political career. His Weldon Amendment, a federal law, prohibits taxpayer funding for organizations that discriminate against pro-life healthcare providers.
Weldon, an Army veteran who served 14 years in Congress, maintained “a 100% pro-life voting record” and has been a vocal opponent of practices like partial-birth abortion, which he has described as a “barbaric procedure.”
In a statement from 2000, he asserted, “the most important indicator of a civilized society is how it treats its weakest and most defenseless population. And I cannot think of a weaker or more defenseless person than a baby in the mother’s womb.”
He later added, “The value of human life has been debased in our civilization to the point where animals have protective rights where humans do not. We are knee-deep in a culture of death.”
Weldon has also introduced legislation aimed at banning human cloning.
In announcing Weldon’s appointment, Trump said, “As a father of two and a husband of 45 years, [Weldon] understands American Family Values, and views Health as one of utmost importance.”
According to Trump, Weldon will “proudly restore the CDC to its true purpose, and will work to end the Chronic Disease Epidemic” and “prioritize Transparency, Competence, and High Standards at CDC.”
